Estimates, scope & pricing
Is the in-home painting estimate free?
Yes. Ambassador Pro Painters offers a free in-home estimate with no obligation to proceed. We discuss your request and arrange a suitable visit before assessing the work.
How much does it cost to paint a room?
The cost depends on the actual wall and ceiling area, preparation, height, trim, doors, coating changes and access. A room label alone does not define the work. Ask for a quote tied to the surfaces and preparation you want included.
Is painting priced by floor area or wall area?
Contractors may use different estimating methods. Floor area can be a starting reference, but it does not capture ceiling height, openings, doors, trim or repair needs. Compare the written scope and final project total instead of assuming two square-foot rates describe identical work.
What should a painting quote include?
Look for rooms and surfaces, preparation and repairs, primer and finish coatings, protection, cleanup, schedule, exclusions and payment terms. Clarify closets, ceilings, trim and doors. Ask how changes will affect the agreed price before authorising extra work.
Why are two painting quotes so different?
One may include more repairs, additional surfaces, different coatings or more difficult access. Ask both contractors to describe the same scope. A price difference is meaningful only when you understand what each proposal actually includes.
Are paint and materials included?
The written estimate should state supplied products and materials. Do not assume every proposal includes the same paint, primer or repair materials; request clarification before comparing totals.
Can I choose several services in one estimate request?
Yes. Select every service you need. Interior and exterior, walls, ceilings, trim and doors, popcorn ceiling removal and a whole-home refresh can be requested together.
Can I get an exact price from photos alone?
Photos may help explain the project but can miss coating condition, height, access and repairs. Our in-home estimate is designed to assess those details before defining the project price.
Preparation & protecting your home
Do painters repair holes and cracks?
Repair work must be included in the agreed scope. Show us small holes, cracks, rough patches and larger damage at the visit. Routine preparation and extensive drywall repair are different amounts of work.
Does every wall need primer?
Not automatically. Primer needs depend on the substrate, condition, stains, repair areas and coating system. The estimate should explain where primer is required and why, rather than applying one universal rule.
Can a water stain simply be painted over?
First confirm that the leak or moisture cause has been addressed. Then assess the surface, any repair and suitable stain-blocking preparation. New paint is not a repair for an active moisture problem.
Who moves the furniture?
Agree on responsibilities before work begins. Put away personal and fragile items, and discuss heavy furniture, wall-mounted objects and window coverings with the team. Do not assume all moving is included without confirming the scope.
How are floors and furniture protected?
Protection is planned around the work area, surfaces and access route. Discuss floor coverings, furniture, fixtures and cleanup at the estimate, especially for ceiling work or occupied rooms.
Do I need to remove pictures and curtains?
Discuss the areas being painted and handling responsibilities first. Small personal and fragile items should be put away; heavier or mounted items need an agreed plan.
Will paint hide uneven drywall repairs?
Paint changes colour and coverage, but uneven texture can remain visible. Ask for the repair finish to be assessed before painting so smoothing work is clearly included where needed.
Can old glossy trim be repainted?
Often it can, following assessment of the existing finish and condition. Cleaning, adhesion preparation and a compatible primer or coating system may be needed. Unknown material hazards must be considered before disturbance.
Scheduling & occupied homes
How long does a painting project take?
Duration depends on surfaces, preparation, access, colours, coats and drying. A walls-only room is different from a full interior with repairs, ceilings and trim. We discuss a realistic schedule after assessing the scope.
Can I stay home while painters work?
It may be possible with an agreed room-use plan. Discuss ventilation, product instructions, bedrooms, work areas and routes through the home. Some spaces may be temporarily unavailable during work or drying.
Can a whole house always be painted in one day?
No. Some small scopes are short, but extensive repairs, multiple surfaces and drying can take longer. The finish and coating instructions should guide the plan instead of a universal time promise.
Can painting be done before I move in?
Yes, subject to access, scope and availability. Include the possession date and move-in date so the project can be assessed against the time available.
Can work be completed in phases?
Phasing can be discussed after assessment. Tell us which rooms need to remain usable and which areas are highest priority so access and sequencing can be planned.
When can furniture go back after painting?
Follow the product’s drying and curing instructions. A touch-dry surface may still be vulnerable to marks or sticking. Ask for care guidance before returning objects against walls or closing freshly coated doors.
What about pets and children?
Plan a comfortable area away from active work and wet coatings. Discuss access, ventilation and daily routines with the team before the project begins.
Does requesting an estimate reserve a painting date?
No. The form submits an enquiry. We contact you to arrange the estimate, discuss the scope and confirm any available painting schedule directly.
Colours, ceilings & exterior surfaces
Do I need colours selected before the estimate?
No. Share a direction and any finishes you want to keep. Final colours, sheen and product decisions should be clarified before the job is confirmed.
How should I choose paint sheen?
Consider cleaning needs, wear, lighting, surface condition and the specific product. Higher sheen can reveal imperfections differently. Discuss the room and substrate rather than choosing by a label alone.
Will a dark-to-light colour change need more paint?
Coverage depends on the existing finish, new colour, product and surface absorption. Primer or a different coating plan may be needed. The estimate should account for the intended colour change.
Can I paint ceilings without painting the walls?
Yes. Ceiling-only work can be assessed, including access, protection and the edges where the ceiling meets the walls.
Does ceiling painting remove popcorn texture?
No. Painting refreshes the existing texture. Removing texture and creating a smooth surface requires a separate assessment and finishing scope.
Can painted popcorn ceilings be removed?
Possibly, but existing coatings, material condition and testing needs affect the method. Request an assessment before deciding whether removal or another finishing approach is suitable.
Does popcorn removal include primer and paint?
Only if the written scope includes them. Clarify the complete result: removal, smoothing, primer and ceiling paint are distinct stages.
When can exterior painting be done?
Exterior work needs suitable application and drying conditions under the chosen product’s instructions. Temperature, moisture, rain, substrate condition and access are considered alongside availability.
Can every siding, brick or stone surface be painted?
No. Suitability depends on the particular material, condition, existing coating and product system. An assessment should come before a promise to paint an unfamiliar exterior.
Can I combine interior painting with exterior trim?
Yes. Select both and describe the exterior features. The preparation and schedule for each may differ.
Choosing a painter & requesting service
How do I choose the best painting company for my project?
Look for relevant examples, clear communication, a written scope and documentation for credentials you rely on. Compare matching surfaces, preparation and coatings. The right choice should explain the work in your home, not rely only on a best-painter claim.
Should I ask about insurance and who does the work?
Yes. Ask to review current insurance documentation and clarify who will be working at your property. Also discuss access, supervision and how questions or changes will be handled.
